A 32-YEAR-old man from Carterton has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Police arrested the man yesterday (01) after firefighters were called to a blaze at a house in Elm Close at about 12.01pm.

The man was also arrested for possession of a bladed article and of an imitation firearm.

Police have confirmed that investigations into the man and the fire are still ongoing.

Four fire engines were called to the home from Carterton, Burford, Witney and Abingdon fire stations plus a high reach vehicle and a command unit from Oxford fire station.

Fire crews made sure that everyone was safe and out of the house and have been tackling the fire using hose lines.

The roof also partially collapsed making operations more difficult.

Detective Sergeant Steven Morris, based at Banbury police station, said: “We are working jointly with the fire service to establish the cause of the fire.

“A 32-year-old man from Oxfordshire has been arrested on suspicion of arson and remains in police custody.

“Although an arrest has been made, we would ask that people not speculate on the circumstances of this incident whilst we carrying out our investigation.

“I also believe there were people filming the fire and would ask that anyone with footage please get in touch with us, by calling 101 or making a report online, quoting reference 43220288988.

“If anyone has any concerns, please feel free to speak to our officers on scene.”
