The Duchess of York has featured a sign language book for children on her daily story time YouTube channel.

Oxfordshire children’s author Shelley Ensor’s book ‘Animal ABC, A Rhyme and Sign Alphabet’, featured on the Duchess of York’s YouTube show, ‘Storytime with Fergie and Friends’ on Thursday, June 30 at 4pm.

The book was written and published by Little Signers Club, an educational consultancy that champions sign language for babies.

The fourth children’s picture book to be published by the centre, ‘Animal ABC, A Rhyme and Sign Alphabet’ has been designed to introduce the British Sign Language (BSL) fingerspelling to all families.

All books in the Rhyme and Sign series - which is written and published by Little Signers Club – include graphics of key BSL signs.

Making the books accessible not only for hearing-impaired children, but for all children.

Miss Ensor, founder of Little Signers Club, said: “These books were inspired by my eldest daughter who has auditory processing disorder.

“This means that whilst she can hear perfectly, she is unable to process and make sense of those sounds.

“As a family, we have used sign supported English all her life, but found that there weren’t books available that she could join in with easily.

Little Signers Club’s books have been used across the country by libraries, families at home and in classes licenced to teach the club’s BSL-based baby signing classes.
