CUSTOMERS of an Oxford health spa have been left feeling the pinch after it shut its doors for good.
Heavenly Bodies Day Spa, in Beaumont Street, has ceased trading and is heading for liquidation - but some clients say they have bought vouchers for treatment which are now worthless. Jackie Warner paid £120 for three vouchers before Christmas, which she hoped would be a special treat for herself and daughters Kelly and Michelle.
But when Mrs Warner, of Hutchcomb Road, Botley, went to use them, she found the business shut with no information about how she could get her money back.
Mrs Warner said: "I bought them as Christmas presents and we were told they were valid for three months, but when we rang to book there was no answer and nothing on the door. I am bitterly disappointed."
Heavenly Bodies was set up in 2003 by Tracey Dunlop, who gave up a successful career in information technology to become an entrepreneur. But in 2005 it suffered a major blow when gift firm Red Letter Days, run by Rachel Elnaugh, a panellist on TV's Dragon's Den, got into financial trouble and many of its suppliers were not paid.
Ms Dunlop said she was owed £90,000 and despite struggling on for another two years, she has not been able to get back on track.
Now she is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy and is set to lose her home as a result of trying to prop up her business.
She said: "The company has now been wound up and there is nothing I can do about it, although I have a huge amount of sympathy for the people who have been let down.
"I tried everything to get over what happened including remortgaging my house to the hilt and cashing in every policy I had. But the final straw came in July when the floods kept everyone out of Oxford, and then Christmas was not as good as I hoped.
"I have lost everything. If I sell my house in a few days, then I will be able to pay off the debts and avoid going bankrupt."
