PLANS to open a new Nando’s in Oxfordshire have taken a step forward after an application for signage was submitted.
The popular chicken restaurant – famed for its peri-peri flavour – is set to open alongside a Pizza Express at Banbury’s Castle Quay this summer.
The proposals for an illuminated sign and illuminated menu box were received by Cherwell District Council on May 27, before being validated on June 9.

A document in support of the application states: “The proposed advertisements are consistent with the style and scale of advertisements that are present within the Castle Quay Shopping Centre, to the south, and will be consistent with the advertisements that will be installed at adjacent units in the Castle Quay 2 development.
“The design of the advertisements is simple and high quality, and is not considered to have any undue impact on visual amenity.
“In addition, the proposed signage will be at an appropriate luminance level and will not create any issues relating to visual amenity.”
Both Nando’s and Pizza Express are set to open at Castle Quay’s Waterfront section.
A target decision date on the planning application has been set for August 4.
The application can be viewed via the district council’s online planning portal, using the application number 22/01589/ADV.
