The proposed Oxford wind turbines can only be regarded as a token effort - and an expensive one at that - towards relieving the rapidly looming energy crisis.
Remember, they work only when the wind blows, and conventional power stations have to pick up the shortfall.
These turbines will therefore never produce more than five per cent of Britain's energy requirements.
Ukip is demanding a common sense approach with its 'Britain First' energy policy - imported gas and coal from, for example, Norway in the short term, but nuclear in the longer term.
Controversial, yes, but we in Britain should never find ourselves dependent on the goodwill of governments in unstable parts of the oil and gas producing parts of the world.
Ukip acknowledges that major anxieties surrounding nuclear energy must be identified and addressed in the proper manner.
