Sir - What rich irony your correspondent displayed when he suggested that the felling of trees was to be deplored as Oxford sought to "become the new Milton Keynes".
He is unaware that all purchasers of new houses in Milton Keynes were given a tree voucher by the Development Corporation.
As a result, Milton Keynes probably has the highest density of trees of any city in Britain.
It's time to challenge the mockery about concrete cows and look at the reality of a wonderful city in which commercial success and environmental excellence live side by side; now that would be a fine example for Oxford to follow.
