A protest against soaring fuel prices plans to cause mass disruption and bring parts of Oxford to a standstill.

The 'Stand up to fuel prices' protest is being organised by car hobbyist group Oxfordshire Street Cruisers (OSC) and is set to take place on July 4.

Writing on the Facebook group for the event, organisers said the protest was for "whole of Oxfordshire and surrounding areas so come together and protest the outrageous fuel price increase.

"The price of fuel keeps increasing and majority of it increasing [sic] is tax, this is causing electric, gas, water and many more things to go up in price as –well as the cost of getting things from A to B.

"We must stand together and protest this tax increase.

"We shouldn't have to be put into poverty and do nothing about it."

Organisers have not released full details or locations of the event to avoid, they say, police stopping the protest. They say information will be released closer to the protest day.

They added: "We need large numbers of people to stand with us and be ready to cause mass amounts of traffic.

"The idea is to cause main HGV routes to come to a standstill as this will mean big business including government buildings to not operate properly.
"We need our voices heard," organisers insisted.
