A CAMPAIGN to highlight the number of pubs going out of business will begin later this month.
Camra, the Campaign for Real Ale, says research has revealed up to 56 are closing every month across the UK - with more than 1,000 under threat of closure at any time.
Community Pubs Week 2008, which runs from February 16-23, aims at highlighting the vital role of pubs in the community.
John Bellinger, of The Bell, Adderbury, said: "Anyone concerned at the threat to British pubs is being encouraged to 'adopt their local pub.' "Members of the public who want to support their local can do so by ordering a free pubs week pack from Camra by calling 01727 867201, by visiting www.pubsweek.org, and also by encouraging publicans to participate in the event."
Camra chief executive Mike Benner said: "Many people are concerned about the potential loss of community pubs but don't know what they can do to help.
"By adopting their local pub they can help to boost trade at this difficult time of year for the licensed trade, and put pubs at the heart of the community."
