Vale of White Horse Under 11s slipped to a 3-1 defeat against leaders Newbury in the County League.
Jack Alexander almost fired Vale into an early lead in the clash at Oxford Brookes Westminster Institute of Education.
Vale also saw two efforts cleared off the line as the first half ended goalles.
However, it was Newbury who broke the deadlock early in the second half when the ball was popped home after a free-kick rebounded off keeper Eddie Cavanagh.
Vale were level within four minutes when Alexander's cross flew in.
But Newbury then stepped up a gear and a lob gave them the lead, before a superb passing move saw them notch No 3.
Vale will be looking to bounce back when they entertain Portsmouth on Saturday.
