AN elderly woman and her pet dog were killed by a speeding motorcyclist during an early morning walk, Oxford Crown Court heard today.
Caroline O'Keeffe, 70, was crossing the road in Kingston Blount, with her two dogs when she was hit by Michael O'Neill's Suzuki in October 2006, the jury heard.
She died of multiple injuries at the scene alongside her cross-breed dog, Sheba.
Amjad Malik, prosecuting, said O'Neill, of Britwell Road, Watlington, was travelling at 39mph - 9mph above the speed limit - when he struck the pensioner.
Mr Malik said O'Neill, 37, who denies causing death by dangerous driving, was travelling to work along the B4009 when the collision happened at about 7.45am on October 24.
He said the 1,000cc bike slid along the road for about 30 metres before coming to a stop on a grass verge.
Mr Malik said: "Having seen that lady and those dogs, the speed at which he was travelling was too great to be able to react, to brake and to stop.
"At the speed at which he was travelling he was unable to deal with a pedestrian in the middle of the road whom he would have seen many metres away - over 100 metres away."
Ms O'Keeffe, from Dorset, had arrived in Kingston Blount the previous day to visit a friend.
The jury visited the scene of the crash this afternoon.
The trial continues.
