Oxpens car park will close temporarily from today. 

The car park, on Oxpens Road, is being closed so that the decking can be dismantled.

The closure is expected to last for 13 weeks, and then parking will be available again.

However, more closures may be ahead, as Oxford City Council which is responsible for the car park added that it would only be reopened until it is needed for redevelopment.

The on-site public toilets will also be closed during this time.

Oxford Ice Rink will remain open.

The top deck of the car park was already closed since January 2019.

The reason work needs to be done on the decking, which was put up in 2014, is that it was supposed to be a temporary measure, so must be taken down as its planning permission has expired.

Cabinet Member for Green Transport and Zero Carbon Oxford Councillor Tom Hayes said: “To avoid city centre congestion we are encouraging drivers to use the five park and rides that provide a convenient and cost effective route into the city centre.”
