A pair of teenagers arrested on suspicion of murder have been bailed, police said.

A 17-year-old boy and a girl, 16, were arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday. The girl was also arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.

It follows the death of 50-year-old Peter Crowley on Sunday morning. Police believe he was assaulted the previous night outside Underhill Circus shops in Barton.

Det Insp Mike Roddy of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit said: “We have conducted a large number of enquiries since Peter’s body was located on Sunday.

“Specially trained Family Liaison Officers continue to support Peter’s family, and I would ask on their behalf that their privacy is respected while they try to come to terms with what has happened.

“We are continuing our investigation, and while we do so, we have released two people arrested on police bail with strict conditions in place.

Oxford Mail:

“I know that this incident has caused concern in the local community, but I would reiterate that we do not believe this to be linked to any previous violence-related incidents in the area and that the suspects and victim were known to each other.

“I would again urge the local community not to speculate as to the specifics of the incident. We are following several lines of enquiry in order to understand the circumstances.

“You will continue to see officers in the area over the coming days while this complex investigation continues, and I would again ask anybody with any information that can assist to please contact Thames Valley Police.”
