Oxfordshire Firefighters delivering vital equipment and cuddly children’s toys to Ukraine have arrived in Soest, Germany.
Following a drive to collect teddies to take to Poland, three firemen from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service began their journey to the Poland-Ukraine border on Tuesday, April 19. The trio are driving across Europe to deliver the donations and a 4X4, which Oxfordshire fire service is also gifting to Ukraine.
The UK convoy, comprised of more than 60 firefighters in 22 fire engines, joined the charity Fire Aid as part of the second wave of donations being sent to the Poland-Ukraine border. The group will be received by the Polish State Fire Service before their donations are transferred to Ukraine.
Oxfordshire firefighters Andy Ford, Mark O’Connor and Steve Potter arrived in Germany in the early hours of this morning (Friday, April 22).
Andy said: “Germany fire service met us as we entered Germany, and escorted us to our stop last night. Their team put us up last night too – they had prepared beds and food. Thursday was a long day, we travelled around 300 miles with a convoy of 22. We’re now continuing through Germany, but it is slow going with such a large group. We’re hitting about 35-40mph.
“Once we enter Poland we’ll be met by Polish fire and rescue services. They’ll take our donations and hand them over to Ukraine.”
