Blenheim Palace has been given planning permission to create an adventure play attraction called the Blenheim Palace Pleasure Garden with a cafe and visitor building.

Planning documents submitted to West Oxfordshire District Council said according to figures approximately 140,000 child visits were recorded to the palace last year.

They said the new play development proposed in the walled garden will be a core attraction for this family market.

The site will feature quirky play structures, picnic grass, interactive water play, play trails and winding walkways.

Thre will also be a visitor centre and cafe with retail and seating inside and outside in a courtyard.

Plans include a water feature with viewing platform, a secret, sensory garden where visitors can interact with sound and touch elements as they move through.

There will also be an oversized kitchen garden-inspired play space, with giant carrots, asparagus and a pumpkin offer clambering and climbing play.

A defined toddler play area, inspired by the boat house that sits on the banks of the Great Lake, will be sited next to a central seating hub at the heart of the site, making sure that younger children are within view.

For older and more adventurous children, the Wilderness Play area encompasses aerial walkways, rope bridges and zip lines.

Children and parents will be able to climb the slope and see up and over the outer wall to get an amazing view across the wider landscape.
