THREE Oxford colleges are looking to hire the first ever person whose role will be dedicated to sustainability at a college.
Some Oxford colleges have a sustainability fellow, who work on environmental matters in addition to their teaching and research responsibilities, and the university has a dedicated environmental sustainability team.
However, the new position created by Exeter, Lincoln and Corpus Christi is the first of its kind among Oxford’s colleges.

Earth Day, on April 22, coincides with the closing date for the role of sustainability coordinator at the colleges.
The advert for the job states: “Key responsibilities will include data gathering and analysis, reporting and coordinating, administering college programmes and activities related to sustainability, preparing papers for relevant college committees, educating the college communities about sustainability, and helping foster best practices across all three colleges.”
Head of Exeter College, Professor Sir Rick Trainor, said: “The creation of this post is a significant and exciting step forward for Exeter’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
“The successful candidate will be passionate about protecting the environment, will be adept at developing evidence-based strategies, and will possess the drive and conviction to achieve demonstrable and lasting success.
“They will relish being busy, working on a wide variety of projects with different people, and showing initiative.
“I very much look forward to working with them, and our colleagues at Lincoln and Corpus Christi colleges, to create a more sustainable future and help prevent potentially catastrophic climate change.”
