In Oxfordshire there has been a lot of heartwarming stories this week. 

The global news has been quite heavy for the past few weeks, and it is easy to feel down.

Puppy appointed 'happiness officer' at care home

An adorable Golden Retriever puppy was appointed ‘happiness officer’ in Chawley Grove Care Home in Cumnor and is already winning over residents’ hearts.

The new recruit, Winnie, has one job, which is to give residents and staff lots of cuddles and kisses.

Oxford's famous characters came to life

Famous historical figures from Oxford’s past came to life at a the Museum of Oxford on Saturday (April 9).

The Rewind Time free family day saw visitors transported back in time, meeting characters such as Alice Liddell, (1852-1934) known for inspiring Alice in Wonderland, and Hardit Singh Malik (1894-1985), the first Indian Royal Flying Core (later RAF) pilot.

Ukrainian family united with cat after kind deed

Oxford Mail: The moment Gary Timmis and his brother reunited the family with their cat. The moment Gary Timmis and his brother reunited the family with their cat.

Gary Timmis, an ex-military who's lived in Long Hanborough for the past 22 years, retrieved a cat from Slovakia for a Ukrainian family in Oxfordshire.

He and his brother, Michael, drove for 22 hours to deliver donations to Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia and returned with the special feline who had had to be left behind.

The 57-year-old, who works as a time-critical courier for the NHS, said:  "These women are going through a terrible time and I thought the least I can do is put a smile on the children’s faces."

Britain's third largest baby born at an Oxford hospital!

Alpha Stone Mitchell, now 24 weeks, was crowned Britain's third largest new born when he arrived via c-section on 28th October 2021 at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

Weighing 14lbs 15oz is now so big he's already eating porridge and bursting out of size 9-12 month clothing - at the age of just FIVE MONTHS.

Rather than the chocolatey treats many of us will be enjoying this weekend, Cotswold Wildlife Park treated its Asiatic Lions, Rana and Kanha, with decorated Ostrich eggs scented with fresh blood.

Small restaurant gets positive review from world-famous critic

Oxford Mail: New bar and restaurant Five Little Pigs to open in Wallingford next year

The famous critic Jay Rayner gave a positive review of a new Wallingford restaurant, Five Little Pigs, saying it “fully deserves to be very busy indeed”.

The restaurant was opened in May 2021 by Sam Smith and Robert McGregor, co-owners of the The Keep in Castle Street, and chef Aimee Hunt.

Needless to say, the owners were very pleased (although they weren't quite sure how he discovered them!).
