THE planning permission that means two ‘temporary’ buildings can be used for the Covid-19 Oxford Vaccine trials has expired.
Researchers at Oxford University now have to ask Oxford City Council to renew the permission for the huts at Churchill Hospital in Headington for the next two years, so they can continue to do vital Covid-19 vaccine trials.
The current planning permission which lets them use the site expired on February 3 this year.
In the plans, town Planning Manager Rebecca Horley explained: “The site has been integral to the University’s research into the clinical research of Covid -19, and, in light of the continuing prevalence of the pandemic, the need for the site’s continued use is essential.
“It is intended that the need for the building will not go beyond 2023.
“Thereafter the land will be restored to the condition it was before the development took place.”
The entrance to the trial area is through the main Clinical Vaccinology and Tropical Medicine (CCVTM) building, and the developers say these extra buildings do not impact how busy the space is.
Plans have also been described in great detail to ensure there is no ‘adverse impact’ on surface and ground water flow to the nearby residential area of Lye Valley in Headington.
Developers have paid a planning fee of £3,234 as well as a £28 handling charge as part of the planning submission process.
