A UNIVERSITY student is hoping to show she has what it takes to be crowned Miss Eco UK.
Alex Evangelou, a 25-year-old social work student at Oxford Brookes University, has previously been crowned Miss Oxfordshire, but is now seeking success in a pageant she feels passionately about.
She said: “It’s a newer contest and fits me much more as a person, it fits who I am and what I stand for.
“It’s something I feel confident and passionate about – being outdoors and in nature is so important.”

The finals will take place in July and Miss Evangelou outlined how she impressed the judges, including her work with environmental group, We Do Ethical.
“For entering the finals, you tell them about what you’ve done – for me, that’s the beach cleans, tree planting, litter picking and how I’ve worked with We Do Ethical. They really liked that I’ve done that,” she said.
Before the finals, Miss Evangelou will be completing her studies at Brookes, having already finished lectures, with just placements and her dissertation left.
She said: “I didn’t expect to start university and then get hit by a pandemic, but it’s been so rewarding, and I feel confident in where I am.”
Miss Evangelou is now looking to work with businesses and charities involved in environmental causes ahead of the finals.
