At midday, a flashmob of 11 dancers wearing neon coloured, Chopstix branded t-shirts took over the space outside the outside the branch and performed to Ed Sheeran, BlackPink and Dua Lipa.
Crowds of shoppers stopped to watch and film the performance on their phones, applauding loudly for the group.
Rob Burns, marketing director for Chopstix, was at the launch of the new branch and believes the brand’s simple formula is a recipe for success.
He said: “We are a new kid on the block in Oxford. I think our kind of offer is something that will shake things up a little bit in the town centre.
“We are really, really simply though. We serve people within a minute when they come through the door.
“We have got some fantastic food on offer. You can choose from noodles or rice and then we have got eight or nine toppings. It is something people really like and we have received some really good feedback from it.”
Chopstix serves a range of pan-Asian inspired dishes which customers can mix and match in different sized boxes.
Customers select their box size and then can add different options dependent on the size; small boxes hold one topping, medium hold two and large hold three.
Bases for their box include egg fried rice, skinny rice or golden noodles, while toppings include choices such as pumpkin katsu curry, caramel drizzle chicken or sweet chilli prawns.
The menu will also see the branch serve buckets of spring rolls, prawn crackers and mini crispy chicken balls.
Kira Yates, 17, visited the restaurant with her family as they were on the hunt for somewhere to eat while shopping.
A member of staff told them that the branch was doing free meals so they thought they would try it out.
Both Kira and her family called the food “fabulous” and “really nice” and said they would come back in the future.
Chopstix is located at 7 Cornmarket in the unit previously occupied by Stabucks, between Boots and Change Money.
The branch is open 11am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 8pm on Sunday.
