The best places to live in the country have been revealed, but Oxfordshire has been dropped from the list.

Last year the "down-to-earth" West Oxfordshire town of Charlbury is included in The Sunday Times list of best places to live in the South East thanks to its beer and music festivals.

The judges said it was their pick of the Cotswolds Villages boasting a speedy commute into Oxford and only an 80minute train journey into the Capital.

However, this year Oxfordshire towns have been stripped of the title and new locations including Reading in Berkshire have been added to the list for its “booming business” and “impeccable connections”.

Sevenoaks in Kent is this year’s winner, judges noted its “top-class schools”, “abundance of greenery” and high street full of independent gems.

Helen Davies, The Times and Sunday Times Property Editor said: “The Sunday Times Best Places to Live list is necessarily subjective. Leave it just to statistics and you will never capture the spirit of a place. For that, you need to visit to take into account that ‘you have to be here’ feeling. Is the pub dog-friendly, for example? Can you live car-free? What are the schools and houses like? Is it multicultural and multigenerational, and can it offer a good way of life to lots of different sorts of people?”
