A planning application has been submitted to Oxford City Council to divide large units in the Covered Market into smaller ones.

The application is related to units 115 to 120 which are located in the south west block of the Covered Market, along avenue four.

In the past, the units were seven separate, smaller units but were altered into larger units by forming openings through the dividing walls.

The proposed plans will see the openings filled and turned returned to their previous state.

A majority of the work will be internal rather than external. Some of the internal work will include installing new LED low energy strip lights, the installation of plain softwood skirting and a full recordation with neutral colours.

The existing contemporary shop front doors to units 116 and 118 will be retained, while new door openings will be made within the existing shop fronts to provide access.

The general look of the shop fronts will be kept to the same simple design which runs throughout the market, where the door is placed in the centre and there are large glazed panels either side.

An assessment has been untaken to ensure the historic nature of the Covered Market will not be effected.

You can read more about the application on the Oxford City Council planning portal.
