A planning application has been submitted to Oxford City Council to install a new canopy over the seating area of a popular cocktail bar.

The application, submitted by Avison Young on behalf of The Alchemist Bar and Restaurant in the Westgate Centre, seeks to install an external canopy with a louvered roof in order to cover the outdoor seating area.

The Alchemist is a creative cocktail bar that also serves food throughout the day, it has both indoor and outdoor seating.

Located on the third floor of the shopping centre, the site where the canopy is proposed for is on an external terrace which is used as a seating area by the bar.

The ‘lourve’ design refers to a set of angled slats which are fixed at regular intervals to allow light and air to pass through.

The blades on the canopy would be able to close and open, allowing for coverage in the rain and ventilation when it is sunny.

Louvre structure will also be free-standing with the posts of the structure in weighted planters.

You can read more about the application on the Oxford City Council planning portal.
