A thief drove away with hundreds of pounds worth of fuel after filling up at garages across the county.

Jason Goves, 45, stopped at two different petrol stations in Buckland and Eynsham on five separate occasions – making off with almost 350 litres of fuel.

He was convicted at Oxford Magistrates’ Court this week of making off without paying for fuel, using false plates and stealing from a car, Thames Valley Police said. The offences were committed between October 2020 and January 2021.

PC Ryan Dollery, of the Rural Crime Task Force, said: “I am pleased with the sentence given to Goves as he was a persistent offender targeting petrol stations.”

Goves, of Burrows Crescent, Chipping Norton, was given a community order with 100 hours of unpaid work and must pay £525 in compensation.
