British-Iranian mother Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is about to leave Iran where she has been detained, it has been widely reported.

Zaghari-Ratcliffe and fellow detainee Anousheh Ashouri, who was sentenced to 10 years in jail in 2019, are both heading to Tehran airport to leave the country.

Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a project manager with the Thomson Reuters Foundation who is from Hampstead, was arrested in April 2016 and later convicted by an Iranian court of plotting to overthrow the clerical establishment.

She had her British passport returned on Tuesday.

Her MP, Tulip Siddiq, has said that Zaghari-Ratcliffe is “at the airport in Tehran and on her way home”.

The Labour MP wrote: "Nazanin is at the airport in Tehran and on her way home.

"I came into politics to make a difference, and right now I’m feeling like I have.

"More details to follow. #FreeNazanin"

During her imprisonment, Zaghari-Ratcliffe's husband, family and friends fought for her freedom, including her husband going on hunger strike.

It has been nationally reported that Zaghari-Ratcliffe will fly into RAF Brize Norton.
