JEREMY CLARKSON said that vegans should eat mash potato scraped from shepherds pie because it's 'good manners'.
He is standing at the picket line with farmers outside Oxfordshire County Council offices today. They're against the plans for new vegan menus at meetings and at school lunches.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Oxford Mail's Tom Seaward, Mr Clarkson - of Top Gear fame - said: “If a vegan came to my house I would scrape the potato off the top of a shepherds pie and they would have that because it’s good manners.”
He explained that he was in Oxford today because he thinks it's 'important' that farmers are heard.
He said: “The idea that you don’t give people choice doesn’t seem to me to be fair.
“If you say to somebody you can only eat weeds and seeds that’s being dictatorial."
He said people need to have 'choice'.
Our politics reporter Liam Rice will be live blogging the council meeting and any updates - more to follow.
