A Headington man who threatened Boots staff has been jailed for two weeks.

Wayne Axtell, 39, refused to come out his cell for his sentencing hearing at Oxford Magistrates’ Court this week – with District Judge Kamlesh Rana jailing him in his absence.

The crook went into Boots on London Road, Headington, on November 9 last year and made threatening remarks. His solicitor, Jayne Wilkinson, said Axtell accepted ‘waving his arms around’ and telling the High Street pharmacy staff to ‘f*** off’.

Sending him down for two weeks, the district judge described the threats as ‘nasty and serious’. He was ordered to pay £50 each in compensation to the two staff members who were threatened.

Axtell, of Cecil Sharp Way, Headington, is currently on remand awaiting sentence for a series of thefts committed across two counties. He broke into businesses in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire between October 2020 and August last year.

The repeat thief pleaded guilty at Oxford Crown Court to charges of burglary, handling stolen goods, conspiracy to steal and having a bladed article. He will be sentenced on March 28.

At his first appearance in the magistrates’ court last year, the justices were told that among Axtell’s alleged thefts were break-ins at a post office in Henley-upon-Thames and a Costa Coffee in Buckingham.

He was also accused of having a hand in the theft of £57,000-worth of agricultural equipment and vehicles from an Oxfordshire farm in April 2021.
