Nearly 4,000 people took advantage of the free ice skating offered over half-term.

Some 3,920 parents and children got their skates on when Marriotts Walk in Witney and Market Square in Carterton were transformed into ice arenas as part of the “Love West Oxfordshire” campaign.

The project was funded from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of its Welcome Back Fund. The fund has been provided to encourage people back to the High Street and support business as a result of restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cllr Suzi Coul, cabinet member for finance, said: “Many local families came and enjoyed the ice skating over half term. It is great that we are able to offer this opportunity to local residents, many of whom are already using the LoyalFree app to access many discounts and activities across West Oxfordshire.

“I was really pleased to hear how many families turned out over half-term and I hope that our local traders felt the benefit of increased footfall in our town centres.”
