There are several restaurants which have recently closed their doors to customers in Oxford.

A number of these restaurants have closed down while the sites are being refurbished into new concepts and brands.

These recent closures are not a new trend as a number of units sit empty in the city centre. George Street is homed to several empty units which were recently occupied by restaurants, you can read more about that here>>>

These are the restaurants which have closed their doors:

Oli’s Thai

Oli’s Thai on Magdalen Street served its last customers on February 25 and the site  will spend the next few months transforming into Elle’s Deli.

Sharing news of the restaurant’s final day on social media the owners said they had a “a great time running Oli’s, but it was time for a change”.

They thanked “all those who’ve worked with us over the years” and said “we couldn’t have done it without you”.

The deli will still be owned by the family who owned Oli’s Thai and will sell Thai and Spanish food and products when it reopens.

Monthly Oli's Thai nights are planned to be held at the Deli when it opens, and hot and cold lunch items are going to be sold from the store.

215 Kitchen & Drinks

The restaurant on Banbury Road in Summertown announced it was closing its doors back in December.

Taking to Instagram the restaurant described the closure as “Au revoir but not goodbye” as the site would be turned into a new concept.

215 Kitchen & Drinks closed after new year and has been undergoing renovation work to turn it into The Kitchen Food Company.

The new venue will be a ‘brunch, lunch bistro and fine food delicatessen’ which will be open seven days a week.

The Grapes

The well-loved pub on George Street posted a notice on its door announcing its closure.

The notice said: "Dearest friends it is with great sadness that I inform you The Grapes is closed. We will not be reopening."

Gees Restaurant & Bar

Another restaurant on Banbury Road which has closed its doors, however this venue will reopen in a few months following a revamp.

The restaurant will currently undergoing a £1 million refurbishment.

The Grade II listed Gees Restaurant & Bar on Banbury Road, which is part of The Oxford Collection, will temporarily close for eight weeks from February 21 until mid-May for a full make over.

The 30-year old site will be remodelled into a modern dining space, with new areas also added to the venue.

Upon reopening, Gees Restaurant, Bar, Gallery & Secret Garden will accommodate over 220 guests in total across all its dining spaces.

Cinnamon Kitchen

Vivek Singh’s Cinnamon Kitchen, which is located on the top of the Westgate Centre, closed down last year.

There is no word yet on what will take over the restaurant space.
