PEOPLE who live near to where a stabbing took place in Oxford are concerned about their safety.

A man in his 40s was stabbed ‘multiple times’ in Blackbird Leys on Thursday night and is in a‘serious, but stable’ condition in hospital.

Thames Valley Police conducted house to house enquiries and there is an increased police presence in the areas of Mercury Road and Marjoram Close in Oxford while an investigation continues.

A 16-year-old boy from Oxford has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and he remains in police custody.

A woman who lives in Mercury Road, who has asked not to be named, said the incident has made her reconsider living in the area.

She said: “Since I moved here last October it’s been very normal, but what has just happened is very serious. It’s given me a strong reason to move. It’s very shocking.

"I lived in Trinidad before moving here and I never saw anything like this happen in Trinidad. I’m quite worried and concerned.”

A woman who lives in Lobelia Road and has lived in Blackbird Leys for 55 years says she feels 'frightened'.

She said: "It's not nice when it's right on your doorstep. It's not a nice feeling especially living on my own. It's not good. I feel frightened.

"We've had incidents over the bridge involving drug dealers, but nothing serious like a stabbing. It's not good."
