PLANS to partially demolish a shopping centre in Oxford have moved forward.
An application to partly demolish the Clarendon Centre on Cornmarket in the city centre has been validated and received by Oxford City Council.
It is currently listed to be discussed as a 'forthcoming application' to be discussed at the council's planning committees.
The application, which was submitted a year ago on February 8 2021, seeks to knock down the 1980's shopping centre, and replace its new buildings to provide retail and office spaces.
It also seeks to create a space for student accommodation, and a research and development centre.
The new shopping centre, if approved, would give the public access to a rooftop, where cafes and restaurants would be located.
In the middle of the shopping centre, a new public square, decked out with pedestrian and cycle links, would be created providing access to Frewin Court.
This is the second time the Clarendon Centre has been demolished.
