ONE of Oxford’s most iconic locations is ‘slowly turning into a car park’ according to a local resident.
Bob Weatherhead was snapping pictures in the city on Tuesday afternoon when he found Radcliffe Square packed with vehicles.
Mr Weatherhead estimated there was more than 20 cars and vans parked in the area.

He said: “I have noticed recently that Radcliffe Square is slowly turning into a car park.
“Does the university not discourage staff from driving into the city centre?
“The council is trying to get cars out of Oxford and for people to use the park and rides.
“I know some of the maintenance vans need to park nearby for lengthy periods, but these are usually hidden away in Brasenose Lane.
“The cars have a right to park there of course, there’s no reason why they can’t be there – but for such an iconic place, it doesn’t feel right.
“The last time I took a similar photo some years ago there was not one vehicle in the frame.”
Mr Weatherhead, who describes himself as a keen amateur photographer, added: “Photography is a passion of mine.
“I like to get around Oxford and capture things which I think are of interest, whether that be demonstrations or areas such as the Radcliffe Camera.”
A University of Oxford spokesperson said: “There are a number of maintenances projects ongoing at colleges and university buildings around the Radcliffe Square area at the moment. This work will be completed soon.”
