Jessica Upton, of Extinction Rebellion Oxford, said: “Transportation is the largest emitting sector for greenhouse gasses.
“The Department for Transport needs to transition to a fully decarbonised transportation plan to address the climate and ecological emergencies.”
Oxford resident Caroline Roaf added: “Many people already cycle in Oxford, but this is becoming increasingly unhealthy and dangerous. We definitely do not need more cars.”

Protesters put up the banners, which read ‘Climate Crisis No New Roads’, on the Marston bridge over the A40 Northern Bypass, on Saturday.
Last December, the Department for Transport announced it was giving £35m for improvements to the A40 near Oxford. The money would pay for a new 850-space park and ride and other changes.
