Controversial plans for a reservoir comparable to the size of Abingdon have recently resurfaced, but did you know plans for an airport near the town were rejected?
The proposed Abingdon Reservoir, which would flood farmland between Steventon, East Hanney and Drayton, could help provide more than 100 million litres of water each day.
Some people who live near the proposed site feel the reservoir would be disruptive and destroy local natural habitats.
However, this is not the first time a controversial plan has been proposed for these farmlands.

In December 2013, plans for a four-runway airport near Abingdon were rejected by a government commission.
The £18.2bn plan, was planned to have capacity for 125 million passengers.
In 2013, the plan was branded as “non-starter” by previous Wantage MP Ed Vaizey.
The Airports Commission, established by the government to solve the problem of Britain’s airport capacity, rejected two proposals in Oxfordshire in favour of adding a runway to Heathrow or Gatwick.
Two proposals for land between Marcham and the Hanneys were submitted, but the commission concluded that Oxfordshire would be too far away from London for a hub airport.
