Last night the Liberal Democrats won a shock by-election victory, winning Shillbrook ward off the Conservatives.
The ward was previously solidly Conservative, and it was the party’s worst result in the area for at least 20 years.

Natalie King, the Liberal Democrat candidate, said: “I am incredibly honoured to have been elected by the people of Carterton.
"I’ll be getting straight to supporting the Save the Rec campaign, standing up for all residents, and fighting for the local services we need.
"This historic victory is a clear indication of voters turning away from the Conservatives locally and nationally. People are fed up being ignored and taken for granted.
"Locally, residents didn’t want just another Conservative who lived outside Carterton and would ignore our views.
"Nationally, they were sick of being misled by our Prime Minister. Whilst out campaigning I met countless local people who were appalled by the way Boris Johnson acted over alleged illegal parties under his own roof.
"In Carterton, just like in North Shropshire last month, voters have sent a clear message that the Conservatives can’t take their support for granted.”
