Protesters are set to take to Port Meadow this weekend after wild swimmers ended up ploughing through raw sewage on Christmas Day.
Why are the swimmers protesting?
Thames Water send out email alerts when it releases sewage into the river. However, outdoor swimming group Brrrrr! were not told about a sewage release from Witney Sewage Treatment Works in the early hours of Christmas Day until 24 hours later. Meaning, they had already swum in the polluted water.
Swimmers gathering for the annual Christmas group swim on Oxford's Port Meadow had no idea of the health risks of entering the water.

Thames Water apologised for the error in the automated email alert system which is currently being trialled across six sites in Oxford.
Thames Water has released sewage at least 16 times since that day and the company has advised that each time it can take four days to clear.
In response to the sewage release a protest will take place on Sunday to demand action to clean up the Thames.
Who will be there?
Oxford West and Abingdon MP Layla Moran intends to take part in the protest and join wild swimming groups and other people who are furious at the dumping of raw sewage.
Where and when is it?
The protest starts at 11.30am on Sunday January 23. Meet at the car park in Lower Wolvercote for protest on Port Meadow near the weir.
