IMPROVEMENTS to the railway station, more student accommodation and a sustainable heat source for the outdoor pool are just a few of the items on this weeks planning agenda.

•Where? Oxford Railway Station, Park End Street, Oxford, OX1 1HS

•In brief: The council has granted permission for prior approval of development to the Oxford Railway station.

This will see an additional platform five railway line built, in tact with all associated platform canopy cover and passenger facilities, such as stairs, lifts and public toilets.

A replacement rail and pedestrian bridge over Botley Road has also been proposed. Sheepwash Bridge would also be replaced under the plans and the single storey railway buildings at the end of platform four would also be demolished, as well as the Youth Hostel and the two commercial units between Cripley Road and Roger Dudman Way.

•Where? 17, 17A, 17B and 19 Between Towns Road, Oxford, OX4 3LX

•In brief: This week Oxford City Council planning committee unanimously approved an application to demolish an old social club.

The Cowley Conservative Club, which closed in 2015, will now be knocked down and replaced with student accommodation.

Cantay Estates has been given permission to build 189 student rooms, as well as communal spaces, at the site.

•Where? Hinksey Outdoor Swimming Pools, Abingdon Road, Oxford, OX1 4RP

•In brief: This week Oxford City Council planning committee also gave permission for work to begin at Hinksey Outdoor Swimming Pools.

The new plans seek to install a ground source heat pump, comprising of slinkies and pipes, within Hinksey lake.

The plans were approved unanimously by the committee.

The development hopes to provide a source of heating for Hinksey outdoor pool with the aim of downscaling the use of boilers on the site and in turn reduce the carbon emissions from the council owned asset.

The council said this plan would create significant public benefit in terms of environmental sustainability.

•Where? The Duke of Monmouth, 260 Abingdon Road, Oxford, OX1 4TA

•In brief: Plans have been submitted to spruce up the pub.

The application seeks to remove the existing smoking shelter and replace it with a new pergola.

It also asks to create three new booths on the site and create a bigger beer garden within the existing car park.

If plans were approved to enlarge the beer garden, the pub would also want to add more outdoor seating and provide festoon lighting.

•Where? John Radcliffe Hospital, Headley Way, Oxford OX3 9DU

•In brief: The application seeks to install a new rooftop ventilation system to the main John Radcliffe Hospital Building.

If approved, the plans will improve the ventilation system in the current laboratory and allow for an increased capacity for sample testing.

•Planning reference: 21/03220/FUL

•Where? Garages Adjacent 5 Margaret Road, Oxford, OX3 8NG

•In brief: Six existing garages could be demolished in order to provide more housing.

If approved, once the garages have been knocked down, they would be replaced with a one bedroom maisonette and two two-bed flats.
