Kings Barber on Crown Walk has been giving out free haircuts every day since November 25, leading up to December 24.
Shop owner Suleyman Yalcin said he got the idea from his father, who ran a barbershop in Istanbul and would often give out free haircuts to people in need around Eid.
“I learned from him,” Suleyman said.
“He was always trying to make people happy, especially around important holidays.”
The 38-year-old said he has been giving out free haircuts for twenty years since he began working as a barber at his father’s shop in Turkey.
Suleyman admits he sometimes ends up giving out more than one haircut a day.
“Sometimes I do four five,” he said.
“We won’t say ‘we only have one free haircut and it’s finished now,’ we can’t say that because people are going to get sad.”
Today they are giving out free haircuts to two young boys.
“You can’t do one of them for free and charge the other one,” the barber explained.
Suleyman set up shop at the Kings Barbers in Bicester two and a half years ago after moving to Bicester with his newlywed wife who ended up falling in love with the town.
“I really enjoy living in Bicester,” Suleyman said, “and I like the people of Bicester as well.”
The couple have recently bought a house and have a three-year-old daughter together.
Before coming to Bicester, he ran a barber shop with his brother in Chesham for seven years, and before that he had a barbershop in Brighton for eight years.
Apart from giving out free haircuts to people in need Kings barbers also give out free drinks to all their customers and don’t charge them for hot towels or massage chairs.
Suleyman said helping out those who need it make both him and staff happy.
“Everybody wants to look nice around Christmas time and it always puts a smile one people’s faces,” Suleyman said.
“When you make people happy you feel happy as well.”
To get a free haircut you can either go into the shop and talk to the staff, call the barber shop on 07585 771847 or contact them via their Facebook page.
