They are part of a 28-store roll out this year with a further 200 sites planned by the end of next year, as the retailer collaborates with fuel operator EG Group to open smaller stores on forecourt sites.

Debra Lees, Asda’s senior director of wholesale and convenience, said: “We want to offer great value Asda products to customers in more convenient locations, including exciting new, exclusive and ‘premium’ ranges.

"Whether they’re picking up essentials, or looking to grab something for dinner, we want to make sure we offer the best possible range of products we know our customers will love.

“The five initial Asda On the Move trial stores have proven that there is a demand for quality, great value products in the heart of local communities, and we’re proud to be bringing this to customers in these areas.”
