Oxford Mail readers have been sharing memories of where they were when they heard about the 9/11 terror attacks.
Their recollections on our Facebook page have been prompted by the forthcoming 20th anniversary of the 2001 tragedy.
Saturday will mark 20 years since planes crashing into the World Trade Center in New York were shown on screens around the world.
People were also killed at the Pentagon in Washington, and in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people from around the world died.

We asked readers: “Do you remember where you were when you heard the news about 9/11?”
ANGELA DEWSON: “Yes working on an assembly line at Countax.”
JENNIFER HARRIS: “On holiday in Spain. Afternoon sleep and woke up to that...only not a bad dream."
NICOLA SUTTON: “Was working at LHR terminal 1, dealing with passengers, escorting some back, not wanting to fly, waiting for love ones to call, airport put on red alert, I’d just started my shift, a very emotional sad day.”
MARIE CLAPTON: “I was at work and it came over on the radio. I was so shocked and remember walking past a shop probably Radio Rentals in town centre and watching the news, absolutely awful.”
SHEILA WOODLEY: “Watching TV and thought it was a trailer for a film, will never forget the feeling of shock when i realised it was real.”
SIAN HOWE: “A petrol station in Snowdonia listening to Chris Moyles on the radio whilst my husband was filling up the car.
JOANNE WILLCOX: “I was working for a radio group and my husband worked for a newspaper.
“He called me to ask if I’d heard what had happened just as we aired our first news item about it. I went into our boardroom to watch on TV the images of the plane flying into the tower. I was pregnant with my first child and later that day a (childless) colleague casually asked me if I was sure I still wanted to bring a new life into the world.”
SARAH YOUNG: “Yes frantically waiting by the phone at home in the UK to know if my brother was safe. He was supposed to be working in the building next to the towers that got hit. Thankfully he had called in sick that day but it was a horrible few hours waiting to know he was safe.”
CINDY GILLETT: “On my way to shop at Abingdon Tesco, that day is imprinted in my memory, such a terrible attack.”
SAM CURRAN: “At my mum’s, pregnant with my Ellie, watching in shock.”
CHRISSIE BELL: “At home and had just had a baby. I remember wondering what kind of world I had bought a child in to. So horrific it was and still is so difficult to comprehend.”
BETHANY APPLETON: “I was 12 years old when it happened. Remember my dad saying put the new on. Was horrible to watch my heart goes out to all those affected.”
KAY-LOUISE LOWE: “I was at school on lunch hour didn’t know what was going on until I got home and saw it on TV. I said to my mum and dad what movie is this and there said it isn’t a movie it is happening now!! I was in shock on 9/11. I remember those who lost their lives.”
TINA BISHOP: “I was at Hotel Disney World Florida having breakfast.”
SARAH COOPER: “At the airport waiting to fly to Madrid for my university placement year; while my dad was in the air flying back from the States.”
SHARRON MORGAN: “I was at home having a cup of coffee before I picked my kids up from school.
“Sat there in silence terrified of seeing what was unfolding in front of me. Hurried to school and got back with the kids. I sat again watching it all, scared witless.”
MANDY BELL: “I was working in Newbury when someone I knew told me, called me to see it on their TV.
“We were watching the first tower smoking thinking it was a terrible accident when the second plane hit!”
SHIRLEY WORNHAM: “I just got home from work, put the television on and there it was - so sad.”
DAWN DWYER: “I was in the staff canteen at Marks and Spencer Northampton. It was on TV and everyone was watching, I have never known the canteen so quite and eerie!”
BRENDA WALTON: “In a taxi after doing my weekly shop at Tescos Cowley. The taxi driver said to me ‘It sounds like World War 3 has broken out’.”
SUE RIGG: “In a taxi on way to give my grandson his birthday present. Instead of enjoying his birthday we were glued to the news.”
