WALK-IN Covid vaccine appointments will be offered to 16 and 17-year-olds at the Kassam Stadium from tomorrow.

The appointments will be available from August 30 each day between 9.30am and 7pm.

This means people in the 16- and 17-year-old age group can now get walk-in jabs at Oxford Health’s three mass vaccination centre's in Reading, Aylesbury, and Oxford, in addition to other pop-up sites.

Queues are expected at the Kassam Stadium tomorrow, as the demand for walk-in jabs is expected to be extremely high.

The team will be actively managing wait times, however, has warned there may be a possibility that individuals are asked to come back the following day.

Tehmeena Ajmal, Covid Operations Director, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I am pleased that we can offer young people aged 16 and 17 the chance to attend the walk-in clinic at the Kassam to get their jab.

“Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself and those close to you from Covid-19.

“We expect there to be queues and our marshals are there to help if you have any questions about wait times.

“It is a good idea to bring some water along and appropriate clothing for the weather as not all of the queue will be undercover.”

Earlier this week the organisation of the vaccination programme for teens in Oxfordshire came under fire after 16-year-olds said they felt ‘ignored’ that no walk-in centre had been opened in Oxford City Centre.

Some teenagers will also be offered the chance to get vaccinated through their GPs.

No parental consent is required for teens to receive the jab; however, proof of age may be asked for.

The Government last week gave the green light for 16 and 17 year-olds to be vaccinated from Monday in a bid to give teenagers some protection from the virus before they return to school in September.

Today 16 and 17-year-olds will also be able to ‘grab a jab’ from other walk-in clinics across the county.

This includes on walk-in at Oxford Academy in Littlemore, between 9.30am and 7.30pm and one further out of the city at Banbury United Football Club between 10am and 6pm.

Those who attend the walk-in clinic for a jab will have their vaccination record updated online.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) guidelines currently says that no second dose is required for healthy 16 and 17-year-olds.
