AN EVENT at a renowned city bookstore has been cancelled due to rising Covid-19 cases.

Blackwell’s Oxford announced that ‘with great regret’ it was postponing its forthcoming events with Sarvat Hasin, Kiran Millwood Hargrave, Lucy Atkins and Claire Fuller because of the Covid cases ‘rising dramatically in Oxford’.

Writing on the bookshop's Twitter page, a spokesperson said: "With deep regret, we have taken the decision to postpone this month's forthcoming events with Sarvat Hasin, Kiran Millwood and Lucy Atkins, Clare Fuller.

"As a shop with such a great history of hosting live events, we had really been looking forward to hosting authors in the bookshop again as soon as possible, however, over the past week we have seen Covid-19 cases rising dramatically in Oxford.

"Whilst the Government's guidelines are scheduled to be relaxed next week, Oxford's Chief medical advisor has suggested that visits in and out of Oxford should be kept to a minimum.

"We hope to be able to announce re-scheduled dates in the near future.

The announcement comes as Oxford had the highest Covid cases in the South East.
