Hubble and Home scores top food hygiene mark

The Hawthorn Leisure-owned hostelry Hubble and Home opened on Abingdon Road in Summer 2020 to punters between lockdowns.

Previously the pub has been called The Berkshire House, the Crooked Pot, the Berkshire and Home until it closed in February 2020.

The pub was recently visited by food hygiene inspectors from Oxford City Council on May 27 and was awarded a five star rating.

Hubble and Home was given a mark of 'good' for the categories 'food hygiene and safety' and 'structural compliance'.

For the category 'confidence in management' the pub scored 'high' which is the best possible mark.

Hubble and Home is located in a 1920s building on 200 Abingdon Road in Oxford.

It has inside dining, a garden area and even boasts a 'boutique Airbnb experience' upstairs.

The pub is now open again inside and it is welcoming customer in for beer, food and live music.

The menu has a good selection of starters from £7 and mains from £12, with children’s meals and desserts also from £7. The pub also offers a selection of vegetarian dishes such as spiced cauliflower steak.

Opening a new business just one month after the end of the first lockdown may seem a big gamble, but positive reviews and good hygiene ratings show the business is doing well.

The pub has scored five star ratings on Google reviews and Tripadvisor.

One happy customer left a five-star review on Google and said: "Really delicious food, beautifully presented also. The landlord and landlady very hard working and friendly, and have created a really nice dining experience."

Another diner said: "A tasteful modern update of a long established venue. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, good selection of drinks and real ales, and an imaginative well cooked menu."

One customer said: "Gorgeous evening of fantastic food, drinks and especially service. They really know their menu and take great care to explain everything and make you feel at home. Absolutely loved it."

On Tripadvisor reviewer James M said: “Had an amazing meal here. Just reopened a week ago due to the lockdown. Really happy to say we had a great meal, a really good time together.

“The food was amazing. There was a really pleasant feeling to the place. The staff were delightful, attentive and very polite. Thanks to home and hubble for making our special evening really great.

“Thanks for a great evening. Will definitely come again.”
