A RESTAURANT that has built a reputation for having 'the best burgers in Oxford' has scored top marks in its food hygiene inspection after relaunching a burger bar in Witney.
Brets burgers restaurant based on Marriotts Walk in Witney has been awarded the highest possible score.
On May 11, the burger restaurant had an unannounced visit from West Oxfordshire District Council's food hygiene inspectors who gave the Witney restaurant five stars.
The restaurant scored the best possible marks with a 'very good' for the categories 'food hygiene and safety' and 'structural compliance' and scored 'high' for the category of 'confidence in management'.
Brets specialises in burgers, steaks and cocktails and started serving food in Oxford in the late 70s and early 80s on the Cowley road and later served burgers in a wooden shed on Park End Street near the Railway station.
The owners of Brets in Witney say that the restaurant built a reputation of serving the best burgers in Oxford, and even claim to that they were 'the best burgers on the planet'.
Now located in Witney it revived and continued Brets' good name and serves burgers which still have top ratings from customers.

Customers can still enjoy some of the original favourites such as The Aioli, The Hawaiian, or The Caribbean burger. The restaurant also has a variety of new burgers and steaks all supplied by award winning butchers, Aubrey Allen.
Restaurant owner Stephen Williams used to work as the general manager for Brets burgers in Oxford. Recently he decided to revive the old loved Oxford burger bar in Witney and now enjoys hearing stories about Brets' past.
Mr Williams is 'relieved' and pleased with his five star rating. He said: "Anyone that does not get five stars when they have been told they are getting a visit should not be working in catering."
The burger bar opened in February during the pandemic purely for takeaways and deliveries and when outside dining was allowed, Mr Williams put marquee up for eager customers to enjoy their burgers and cocktails outside.
Mr Williams said he provided his customers with blankets and hot water bottles on the cold and rainy days.
Brets will now be opening for inside dining today. The owner decided to delay the grand inside opening by one day to allow for a deep clean.
However, there could be a wait if you want to enjoy a burger this weekend as Mr Williams advises customers to pre-book as the restaurant is booking up several weeks in advance.
The restaurant also has top Trip Advisor reviews. One happy customer left a positive five star review and said: "The first time we had been out since 2020, we were out for a friend’s birthday. Having been a regular to Brets in Oxford the expectations were high . We were not disappointed, the food and the service were Amazing. Well done we will be back."
