A NEW lottery for Oxfordshire residents with a weekly jackpot of £25,000 will launch next month.

The competition by Vale of White Horse District Council will also offer runner-up prizes of £2,000, £250, £25 and three free tickets every seven days.

Anyone will be able to buy tickets online for £1 a week, and 50p of that will go towards the player's chosen local good cause in the district.

The council will offer players a range of local good causes to support, and it is now inviting organisations in the area to get in touch if they would like to be considered by sending an email to communityenablement@southandvale.gov.uk.

Of the 50p of the ticket price which does not go to a local good cause, 10p will go into a central community fund, 20p to the prize fund, 17p towards the administration of the lottery, and the last 3p on VAT. The first draw of the White Horse Community Lottery will take place in September.

Margaret Crick, Chairman of Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “This is such a good way for local organisations and good causes to get much needed funding and for residents in the Vale to support the organisations that are important to them.

"By getting involved residents can make a difference to where they live in the district. It’s great that we have already had so much interest in the lottery and it hasn’t even launched yet.

"I am really looking forward to hearing from local organisations at our launch event about how funding from our new lottery will help them."
