Top marks to Judge Charles Harris for condemning the narrowing of Cowley Road in Oxford (Oxford Mail, December 16).

When will road planners realise that narrowing a road makes it more dangerous for cyclists and not less, as it throws the cyclist into the path of following vehicles?

The idea that motorists will politely slow down to let the cyclist through is laughable.

In fact, the motorist will accelerate hard to get past the cyclist before the road narrows and bus drivers are as bad as anyone else.

The same problem has recently been created in Headley Way at the Staunton Road pedestrian crossing where the road is unnecessarily narrowed.

Obviously road planners never cycle on busy roads.
