Oxford came top in a national campaign to cut the amount of chewing gum stuck to pavements.
The city saw an 86 per cent cut in gum in the streets in the four-week campaign in August and September.
Streets were cleaned of gum before and after the campaign so accurate counts could be taken for the survey. Sixteen councils took part.
The campaign was organised by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Chewing Gum Action Group.
