A MAN arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a 26-year-old man in Oxford has been released on police bail for a second time.
Alex Smith, of no fixed address, was found with serious head injuries at the corner of St Ebbe's and Pennyfarthing Place in the city centre a week last Saturday, and died in the John Radcliffe Hospital on December 17. The cause of his death is unknown and a post mortem examination was inconclusive.
Yesterday detectives were piecing together Mr Smith's final movements.
Oxford police spokesman Toby Shergold said: "That is part of our routine investigations and we are confident of what they were.
"However if anyone did see him on Saturday, December 15, we would like to speak to them."
On Saturday, a 38-year-old man from Oxford was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was questioned for several hours before being bailed to return to the police station on Monday. He has been bailed again until January.
Oxford police spokesman Claire Gourlay said no-one had been charged in connection with the death and the investigation was continuing.
It is understood that Mr Smith had previously used the Oxford Night Shelter in Luther Court, a centre for the homeless, but police said the shelter was not a key part of the investigation.
