CHILDREN taking the train between Bicester and Oxford got a special festive surprise.
Joining them on six train services was Santa Claus, who was handing out small gifts for the children, free mince pies and mulled wine.
First Great Western put on extra services on Saturdays and Sundays in the weekends running up to Christmas and the two following weekends - known as Santa Specials.
Richard Rowland, the company's regional manager, said: "It is really aimed at encouraging people to use the train at what is a busy time on the roads.
"There is great excitement when the children see them. It is a nice part of Christmas, and a nice way to travel.
"Mums and dads are happy about avoiding all the traffic and the children have the benefit of seeing Santa as well."
There were also carol singers and a brass band lending a festive air to the occasion at Oxford rail station and on some of the trains.
