WALLINGFORD will have a permanent new post office by Easter - and it will be back home in the former Martins newsagent's, in St Martin's Street.

KP Stationers, in Market Place, will use the shop while rebuilding work is carried out on its present premises to make room for a post office counter. The town has been served by a temporary building behind the Regal Centre for the past four months, following the closure of Martins newsagents, after the firm decided not to renew its lease.

KP Stationers' shop manager Ashley Kempson will be the new sub-postmaster.

He said: "We will be moving part of our operation into the former Martins building and the post office will be housed there, right where it used to be."

Mayor Betty Atkins said: "This is good news for Wallingford and especially for traders in that part of the town who were hit when the post office moved."
