A BOUTIQUE hotel near Britain’s oldest road with ‘bags of character’ is up for sale for a little over one million pounds.
For more than 300 years The Star Inn has been at the heart of the picturesque village of Sparsholt nestling at the foot of the ancient Ridgeway path with miles of unspoilt trails at its door.
Now the eight-bedroom hotel is searching for a new owner and is on the market for £1,200,000.
This is how the letting agent described The Star Inn on Rightmove – ‘an elegant dining pub with quality accommodation, superbly located in the historic Vale of White Horse’.

The freehold comprises of eight ‘smart letting’ bedrooms, gardens, a car park and accommodation for employees.
It also has a 'well-equipped' commercial kitchen with a combination oven, induction range, walk-in chiller and ground level cellar.
Agent Colliers International added: “There is a wonderfully atmospheric bar and a restaurant with bags of character too.
“Completing the package, and in a detached building so that enthusiastic diners cannot disturb guests, are eight beautifully appointed letting rooms, just the sort of rooms you hope to find in a country pub but so often do not.
“There is staff accommodation too, which has scope for creating more letting rooms, and all this in a site that not only offers plenty of outside space for dining but also plenty of car parking.”

When the current owners bought The Star Inn nearly ten years ago, the place was ‘tired’ and ‘rundown’.
After the much-needed tender loving care and a major business drive, trade took off for them.
Dining at The Star Inn even received national spotlight when it was described as ‘an ideal rambling pitstop near the Ridgeway, with pies, steaks and burgers on the blackboard menu and more adventurous dishes’ by The Telegraph back in 2015.
However, the owners are now looking to sell the business and retire.
Constructed of a mixture of brick and stone beneath a stone slate roof, the pub is believed to have been built in roughly 1720, and as far as the vendors are aware it has always housed a pub.
A detached existing barn was converted in the early 1990s to provide an accommodation block, which has rooms on ground and first floors, and while the ground floor construction mirrors the pub, the first floor is timber clad.

However, none of the buildings is listed by Historic England.
A 'huge advantage' of the property is the amount of outside space available.
There is scope for more than 100 covers in the beer garden, and the car park on site fits approximately 15 vehicles.
